AAID Fellowship
Is the Fellowship recognized in
the United States? Can I practice there?
The Fellowship of the AAID is the
only curriculum and psychometric exam based credential in the world
and Fellows of the AAID practicing in the USA are recognized to have
undergone extensive training in implant dentistry. They
routinely provide implant services in their
general dental practice, prosthodontic, surgical and periodontal
practices, besides being referred implant patients from general
dental practices. United States Federal Law however requires you to
either clear a Licensure Examination and complete a registrable
dental qualification such as a DDS or DMD before you can practice in
a given State.
How do I maintain the Associate
Fellowship ?
An Associate Fellow has to
continue to maintain membership in good standing with the American
Academy of Implant Dentistry to maintain his Associate Fellowship.
What is the Associate
Fellowship examination fee?
The Associate Fellowship
examination fee is currently US $ 750 if the examination is taken in
India. This fee will be stipulated by the AAID and the participant
is at freedom to decide whether he wishes to take the examination in
the USA or India. The written examination will be conducted in India
only if there are ten or more participants. The oral/case
presentation parts of the examination have to be taken only in the
United States. The participant has to however successfully complete
the written examination before moving on to the oral/case
presentation part.
In addition to this fee,
candidates will also be billed for the expenditure of bringing AAID
personnel to India for conducting the examination. This amount is
arrived at only on the basis of the number of candidates taking the
examination and is hence not definable at this point. In previous
MaxiCourse®s, this expense for each of about 34 candidates who took
the examination, was USD 68 or less. It is likely to be about the
same this year as well, if the number of candidates taking the
examination is similar.
When is the Associate
Fellowship oral examination held?
The oral/case presentation part is
usually held in May every year. The written part will follow the
last MaxiCourse® module if it is administered in India.
Participants may also take both parts in the United States.
Does attendance at the course
assure a participant of the AAID Fellowship or Associate
Fellowship ?
No. The Course only fulfills
educational requirements for the AAID Associate Fellowship. These
credentials can be gained only by success in the examinations that
have to be passed after completing educational requirements.
What is the difference between
Associate Fellowship and Fellowship?
An Associate Fellowship is gained
after success in the examination following completion of educational
requirements stipulating 300 hours of implant dentistry education.
In addition, the participant has to fulfill requirements for an oral
examination and a case presentation of three cases - a single tooth
replacement, a restoration of an edentulous segment of two or more
teeth with implants and a completely edentulous case restored with
implants.
The AAID Fellowship requires
additional criteria to be fulfilled including success with another
examination, case presentations of several cases and additional
educational stipulations. Details are available on the AAID website
at http://www.aaid-implant.org/
Does a participant necessarily
have to take the Associate Fellowship examination?
No. A participant may take the
MaxiCourse® sheerly to broaden his education in the field
of implantology. The Associate Fellowship examination is a must only
for those who wish to pursue this credential. Also, one can also
take the Associate Fellowship examination at some other point in the
future as the educational requirements continue to be fulfilled,
unless of course the AAID redefines criteria.
Who will be the examiners for
the examination?
The AAID Board of Trustees and a
Committee constituted for the purpose, nominates the examiners for
the Associate Fellow examination.
What happens if a participant
does not get a visa to go to the United States?
The Course Director along with the
AAID, will help every candidate to pursue fulfillment of the
requirements for visa grant in an individual case and help the
participant as far as possible. Nevertheless, it is the candidate's
responsibility to satisfy requirements of the United States
Government in this regard.
Will the
Fellowship be recognized in India in the future?
The AAID will make efforts to have the
Associate Fellowship of the AAID recognized in India. However there
is no guarantee at this point in time, that such efforts will meet
with success and participants in the MaxiCourse® should
not anticipate such recognition.
Is the Associate Fellowship or Fellowship

Yes. In several parts of the world the Associate
Fellowship or Fellowship of the AAID is an acknowledged credential
that represents quality training in implantology and skill in
the art and science of implant dentistry.

physiodispensers and surgical kits will also be provided.
When do the clinical sessions begin?
The clinical sessions will begin soon after the
completion of the modules teaching the surgical curriculum. This
will ensure that the participants understand surgical principles
prior to their first experience with implant placement.
Where will the clinical demonstrations will
be held?
The Clinical Demonstrations will be held at
state of the art Clinical Centers in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi which
are suitably equipped with projection and multimedia facilities for
the same. Clinical Demonstrations are not be confused with Clinical

the clinical demonstrations will be selected carefully and will
reflect mainstream implant cases.
